Second visit of regional advisor of French health ministry, M. Guillaume Huart from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences

On Wednesday, 2018/10/10, a French delegation composed of regional advisor of health ministry, Mr. Guillaume Huart and scientific attachéof embassy, Mr. Jean-Christophe Bonté, along with representatives from the Ministry of Health, NIMAD Center and professors from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences and Tehran University of Medical Sciences discussed the roadmap for the scientific and medical cooperation between Iran and France. 

Dr. Mehrdad Feizi, vice-chancellor of international affairs, welcomed the guests and expressed his enthusiasm to expand scientific-medical relations, especially in the field of joint projects and exchange of faculty members and students with French Universities and Institutes.

Then the professors of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences and Tehran University of Medical Sciences, presented their scientific projects in optogenetics, the cohort study of  Tehran University in collaboration with the heart psychosomatic diseases centres, gastrointestinal diseases focusing on colon diseases, urology and artificial bladder transplantation and toxicology respectively. Currently, difficulties of all these projects are related to financial support and the establishment of international collaborations especially with French partners.

  

Dr. Bita Mesgarpour, consultant for research and technology at the Ministry of Health, suggested the eventual signature of a Memorandum of Understanding between the NIMAD Center and the INSERM and CNRS Centres in France to promote the effective scientific network, and also welcomed the workshops by French professors to update the BioBankingmanagement in Iran. 

Mr. Guillaume Huart, satisfied by the quality of proposed projects, considered it necessary to create a complete and feasible roadmap for implementation at this juncture.

 At the end of the meeting, Dr. Amir Mohsen Ziaei, vice-chancellor of academic affairs, referred to his recent trip to France, adding that the French president, Emanuel Macron, has not given any restrictions on the development of scientific relations with Iran. He also expressed hope that in the future executive results would be obtained from these meetings.

  

Visiting the Institute of Tuberculosis and Pulmonary Diseases in Masih Daneshvari hospital, Dr. Farnia, Dr. Shadmehr, Dr. Abedini, Dr. Kiani, Dr. Sharif Kashani, and Dr. Mortaz, introduced some of the Institute's activities including collaborations with The World Health Organisation, publication of scientific journals and two-year congresses held by the Institute. 

Dr. Farnia referred to the significant hospitalisation of Pakistani, Azerbaijani, Afghani, and other countries in Masih Daneshvari hospital and also giving admission to foreign students from Australia, Iraq and the United States. The high quality of professors and interesting training courses are the main convincing reasons for international students choosing this centre as their post graduate destination. 

During this visit, M. Guillaume Huart visited the Thorax Surgery Department, the Organ Donation Bank  and laboratory facilities of the hospital and eventually announced his willingness to facilitate the joint activities of Iran and France. 

On Saturday, 2018/10/13, a wrap-up meeting was held at the office of vice-minister of health and medical education. The discussed fields of the Iran-France scientific collaboration road map especially the joint research projects have been resumed and the Iran-France scientific collaboration office been chosen as coordinator to follow up the future tasks on scientific collaborations.
